My Process

What it's like to work together

Hiring a scientific writer for the first time can feel uncertain — you're not sure what to share, what to expect, or how involved the process will be. Here's exactly what working together looks like from first contact to final delivery.

Step 1 — Tell me about your project. Send me a short description of what you're working on — your manuscript draft, data, or outline, along with your target journal, if you have one, and your submission timeline. There's no fixed format for this first message. A few sentences are enough to get started.

What you need: a brief project description and your timeline. What you get back: a response within 48 hours.

Step 2 — We align on scope and approach. I review what you've shared and assess what level of support will serve your project best — whether that's a focused editorial pass, a full structural revision, or manuscript development from your data. I'll recommend an approach, and we'll agree on scope, timeline, and next steps before any work begins.

What you need: a short conversation or email exchange to confirm the plan. What you get back: a clear scope of work and timeline so there are no surprises.

Step 3 — Writing or editing begins. Once we've agreed on the scope, I get to work. Depending on the project, this may involve editing your existing draft, developing new sections from your data and notes, or building a full manuscript structure. I keep scientific accuracy as the non-negotiable throughout — your findings stay yours, expressed more clearly.

What you need: your draft, data, figures, or notes, depending on the service. What you get back: regular progress updates and a clear delivery date.

Step 4 — Delivery and next steps. You receive a polished, publication-ready document with tracked changes or clean copy, depending on your preference. I'm available for one round of follow-up questions after delivery. If you need support responding to reviewer comments or preparing a revised submission, that can be arranged as a separate engagement.

What you need: nothing — just review the delivered document. What you get back: a submission-ready manuscript and a clear path forward.
